Synopsis

The museum is part of the Santo Domingo Cultural Center. Shares the former Dominican convent area with an ethnobotanical garden, a newspaper library, a Catholic temple, and a library. The 16th and 17th centuries construction is one of the most important examples of the Colonial vice royal architecture.   The Pre Hispanic Cultures of Oaxaca region, such as Monte Alban, Yagul, Mitla, Lambitieco y Zaachila are described in the halls, as well as the Evangelization and Colonial period. Independent and Revolutionary periods, and contemporary Oaxaca, are also themes of this museum, inaugurated in 1972.
