Synopsis
“Juan Gamboa Guzman” Yucatan Picture Gallery is located beside the El Jesus Temple, lodged in spaces that belonged to the Jesuit Order in the Colonial period. It was inaugurated in 1981, and its heap comes mainly from the former Historic and Archaeologic Museum of Yucatan. The Colonial paintings from 17th and 18th centuries have religious themes such as priests and bishops’ portraits, scenes of saints’ lives and one of Our Lady of Izamal. The 19th century collection presents the work of 2 important Yucatan artists: Juan Gamboa Guzman and Gabriel Gahona Pasos, known as “Picheta”. Sculptures that represent quotidian life of Mayas during the 20th century, created by Enrique Gottdiener are exhibited too. Web site
